The procedure, known in plastic surgery parlance as breast reduction, is a breast reduction operation for women with large, heavy, sagging breasts that cause pain in the neck and shoulder area, restriction of physical activity and irritation of the skin under the breasts (dermatitis, eczema, mycosis).
In addition to the physical problems caused by breast hypertrophy (excessive breast size and weight), there are also social problems. Most patients who request breast reduction say that they have a negative perception of their own body, which is reflected in a low quality of life.
During the preoperative consultation, Dr. Adrian Racu will take measurements, examine the volume, shape of the breasts, skin quality, areola and nipple positions, and at the end you will choose together the most suitable technique according to your wishes, needs and individual anatomical characteristics.
During the consultation it is mandatory that you tell the doctor about any medical history, illnesses or allergies that have affected you in the past and whether you are currently taking any medication.
The cosmetic surgeon will recommend certain measures to be taken before breast reduction surgery. This is required:
avoid exposing your breasts to the sun or the sun;
discontinuing anti-inflammatory, contraceptive, antidepressant and other medications that may interfere with blood clotting;
stopping smoking or reducing the number of cigarettes for proper scar healing.
When leaving the operating room, the patient will wear a bra that will be worn day and night for 2 months, followed by 1 month only at night, to support the breasts and achieve the best possible result.
The pain experienced in the first few days after surgery is of medium intensity and can be kept under control with prescribed medication.
After breast surgery, you should follow all of Dr. Racu's instructions to ensure proper healing. Everyone heals at a different rate, but in general, you can expect to be back to daily activities (work) within a week.
Most patients can resume light exercise after two weeks. Intense exercise and weight lifting can usually be resumed after six to eight weeks, but you should consult your doctor first.
